In view of our extensive work on HIV/AIDS and TB prevention in the Chennai area, the Government Hospital in Tambaram, a suburb in Chennai, assigned an exclusive pediatric ward to HOPE foundation in 2003. Since then, we have worked with over 5,000 children affected by HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis (TB) through this program.
At the Tambaram pediatric ward, we organize indoor recreational and educational activities for the children – many of them are not well enough to attend school or even play outdoors. With us, they write, read, tell stories, color and play indoor games such as chess and carom. Being thus engaged also helps the children connect with each other and make new friends. We also counsel mothers and care givers of the children.
