Centre of HOPE - ICoH Mumbai

The Industrial Centre of HOPE- Mumbai is located in the Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone (SEEPZ) area. SEEPZ is an export zone in Andheri East, with almost 500 medium to large scale factories inside the zone.

As a part of setting up our Centre, the following factories were surveyed in the SEEPZ: Goldstar Jewellery, Inter Gold (India) Pvt. Ltd, Goldiam International Ltd, Elegant Collection, Tara Ultimo Pvt. Ltd and Renaissance Jewellery Ltd. We could gather from the factories that there were lot of youths working in the factories that were keen to learn computers and spoken English.

Following the survey, the programmes that have been initiated through the Industrial Centre of HOPE are:
1. Tuition centre for children of factory workers and children living in nearby slums at the Tata Compound BMC School Hall, Irla, Vile Parle (W).

2. Balwadi (kindergarten classes) children of factory workers and children living in nearby slums at the Oshiwara BMC School, Jogeshwari (West).

3. Computer centre and Spoken English centre for the youth working at the factories at A/503, Sukh Sagar Co-op. Bldg No. 4/A, MIDC Central Road, Andheri East.

The Computer centre has started functioning from June 14th with one full time instructor and 5 computers. 20 workers from the Goldstar Jewellery and 6 local residents have take admission. While at the Balwadi, a part time teacher and a helper are taking care of 15 children.
