Dell Inc. is one of HOPE foundation’s biggest partners since 2011. The ‘Dell Powering the Possible’ learning grant has made it possible for us to advance youth education initiatives in Chennai, Coimbatore and Hyderabad. With Dell’s support, we have installed three Smart Boards and 50 laptops at HOPE foundation Matriculation School in Kannagi Nagar.
Apart from the Kannagi Nagar school, we have also set up computer training centers in government schools in Porur, Mugappair and Sriperambudur in Chennai and another in Coimbatore. At all these centers, we not only train school children but young adults and unemployed women as well in computers.
School children from 6th to 10th grade learn how to use MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel programs, improve their understanding of school lessons through educational videos, access the Internet for research, use projectors to make presentations and even complete their school projects on computers.
After school hours, the computer lab becomes a training center for young people and women who, through a three-month course, learn computer skills to help them find better jobs.
In 2016, the theme for the ‘Dell Powering the Possible’ program is ‘Empowering the Next Generation’. We will focus on providing tools, resources, and opportunities for both teachers and students to move beyond basic technology skills and integrate digital literacy.
